Regulatory Milestones 

1) Approved: The NJDEP approved BP's August 2007 Final Remedial Investigation Report (RIR) that was amended on December 14, 2007 on December 18, 2007.  The RIR is the last step in the Remedial Investigation phase under the NJDEP's Technical Requirements for Site Remediation and provides the basis for final cleanup decisions.     

 

 2) Approved: In April 2008, NJDEP approved BP's August 2007 Remedial Action Selection Report (RASR), as amended 18 March 2008.  The RASR provides the master plan of which methods will be used to complete the cleanup.  The RASR provides the master plan of which methods will be used to complete the cleanup.  The RASR further divided the former Terminal into 16 areas, called Remedial Management Units (RMUs), for which individual work plan have been and will continue to be prepared detailing the selected cleanup measures.     

 

3) Approved: On 27 February 2009, NJDEP approved BP's May 2005 RAW for RMU 5 (sitewide groundwater) amended January 2009.  This RAW covered how cleanup of the groundwater beneath the Site and surrounding area will be completed; it also provides framework for how cleanup of the remaining sources of chemical impact in the other RMUs at the Site will be completed.     

 

4) Approved: A Groundwater Classification Exception Area (CEA) was established by NJDEP in February 2009 to ensure appropriate use of groundwater while the site is being remediated. 

 

5) Approved: On July 10, 2009 and August 21, 2009, NJDEP approved BP's April 2009 RAWs for RMU 1A, RMU 1L, and RMU 1D/1K. 

 

6) Submitted: On September 30, 2009, BP submitted the RAW for RMU 3. 

 

7) Submitted: On October 12, 2009, BP submitted an Addendum to RMU 4 (the RAW was submitted on April 30, 2009).

 

8) Approved: On October 22, 2009, NJDEP approved the RAW for RMU 4 (and addendum). 

 

9) Submitted: In October 2009, BP submitted the final RAWs for the SIte for the following RMUs: 1B/1E, 1C, 1F, 1I, and 1J. 

 

10) Approved: On January 7, 2010, NJDEP approved the RAW for RMU 1B/1E.

 

11) Submitted: On January 22, 2010, BP submitted a Revised RAW for RMU 3 and addenda to the RAW for RMU 1I and the RAW for RMU 1J.
