Looking Toward the Future
During the process of remediation, BP has worked with the Mayor, the Borough Council, County administrators, the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, the Delaware River Planning Commission, the South Jersey Port Corporation (SJPC), the Gloucester County Improvement Authority (GCIA), and former Senator John Corzine's office to facilitate sustainable redevelopment of the property. Efforts such as demolishing the tanks, continuing remediation, constructing one of the largest solar fields on the East Coast, transferring the property itself to the Borough, and working closely with GCIA during port redevelopment planning and port redevelopment are contributing to the goal of productive re-use of site.
